India is included in the list of countries to export aquaculture products to the European Union and has proved its compliance with the use of antimicrobials in animals used for food. India was excluded from this list in 2024 as concerns were raised. Aquaculture covers caviar, crustaceans, and eels. Under EU guidelines, the usage of antimicrobials is prohibited for yield, nor should animals be treated with antimicrobials. Also, the EU had added 102 new Indian fisheries to the list to export to EU member countries.
India has gained EU confidence, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This revised regulation ensures uninterrupted access to aquaculture product experts to the EU market from September 2026. The EU is the third-largest Indian seafood export market, worth $1.6 billion.
