Founder of Meta, Mark, sent an email of gratitude to 8,000 Meta employees losing their jobs. For the rest of the Meta workforce, he gave two promises, including no more layoffs in 2026. Meta has cut around 10 percent of its workforce. In three waves starting on 20th May, the layoff notifications are being sent out in Asia, Europe, and America. Also, around 6,000 open roles are scrapped, and 7,000 new workers are reassigned to new AI projects. US workforce is getting 16 weeks of severance plus two weeks for every working year.
The Real Reason Behind The 8,000 Layoffs
Finance Chief Susan Li said that the team needed 50 or 100 people, but now only requires 10; that is the reason behind restructuring the company. Meta is spending $145 billion on AI expenditure this year, double what it was last year, with most of the capital spending on custom chips, model training for Meta Superintelligence Labs, and data centers. This is the reason behind the major Meta layoffs.
