India's first-ever 10-car hydrogen fuel cell-based trainset is about to start soon on the Jind-Sonipat route. Indian Railways has approved this proposal to meet the net-zero carbon mission and green technology goal. This hydrogen fuel cell-based train would be a 10-car train with 75 kmph speed using 1,200 KW with a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system. This adds India to the list of countries using hydrogen fuel technology, including the USA, Germany, China and Japan.
Indian government is pushing hydrogen fuel cell-based technology for transportation. Recently, IOCL has offered two hydrogen fuel cell buses to the Delhi government that have CCTV and GPS tracking features. Also, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has started its first-ever hydrogen fuel cell-based shuttle bus.
