Google has restored access to the Telegram platform after a week. The central government has banned access to the messaging platform Telegram to avoid the paper leak of NEET-UG 2026. The re-examination of NEET-UG 2026 was held on 21st June, and Meity had ordered the ban on the Telegram app under the IT Act 2000 and Section 69A.
Users were in confusion due to the removal of the application, but now the Telegram application is once again restored for new updates and downloads. The instant messaging platform Telegram was banned on the suspicion of its use in the NEET-UG national examination paper leak. The central government told the court that it had exhausted other options and had imposed a ban on Telegram usage for a limited time. The centre had requested that targeted content takedowns were not effective in stopping the unlawful material spread.
Telegram's automated bots, cloud-based architecture, forwarding tools, and other features had made enforcement actions tougher. Now, users can use Telegram like before, and new users can download or update the messaging platform application from the Google Play Store. Both Android and iPhone users from India can now use the Telegram app the same as before.
