Memory chips have become more expensive now due to demand from AI data centers. Sridhar Vembu admits that this has led to a point where it is becoming difficult to run a business. In 12 months, the cost of memory has increased along with AI token prices. The average price of DDR5 memory is Rs 40,000 for specific kits.
Srihdar Vembu also said that even smartphone prices have increased due to increased memory prices. Earlier programming languages were designed as the memory was free, but now the era is different. Zoho founder points out that there is a need for smart compilers, and safety and productivity in writing code cannot come at the expense of memory bloat.
OpenAI has also bagged a deal with SoftBank's SB Energy for a 10-gigawatt data center in Ohio that is backed by Nvidia. Also, HCL Tech is investing Rs 3500 in data centers, and TCS has announced plans to set up a 1-gigawatt data center unit worth $7 billion.
